Evidence That I Matter
Main Idea
God made me for a relationship with Him.
Key Question
How do I know that I matter to God?
1. START HERE: What Makes Something True?
Every day, we make decisions based on what we believe is true. Sometimes we have actual evidence, and sometimes we make assumptions.
Think about this:
How do you know when someone really cares about you?
Is it because they say they care, or because their actions show it?
Write your answer:
Now think about this:
Where do teenagers often look for proof that they matter?
Examples might include:
- Friends
- Social media
- Grades
- Sports
- Popularity
- Appearance
- Relationships
- Achievements
Which one of these can change quickly?
2. READ THE BIBLE
Read Ephesians 2:1-10
As you read, pay attention to what this passage says about:
Who we were
What God did
Why God did it
What our relationship with God can look like
The lesson points us to this truth: our value isn't based on what we accomplish. God demonstrated His love by making a way for us to have a relationship with Him.
Think About It
1. How does Ephesians 2:1-3 describe life apart from Christ?
2. Read Ephesians 2:4-5 again.
What does the phrase “rich in mercy” tell you about God's character?
3. Why is it important that God's grace is a gift rather than something we earn?
3. THE EVIDENCE
Sometimes we look for evidence that we matter by looking at what other people think about us.
But people can change.
Friends can change.
Grades can change.
Our popularity can change.
Our appearance can change.
Our circumstances can change.
God's love doesn't depend on those things.
The cross is evidence of God's love for us. The lesson describes Jesus' sacrifice as “cold hard evidence” that we matter deeply to God.
Read Romans 5:8
What stands out to you about WHEN Christ died for us?
Jesus didn't wait until we had everything figured out.
He didn't wait until we were perfect.
He loved us while we were still sinners.
What does that tell you about God's love?
4. READ JOHN 3:16-17
“For God loved the world in this way: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
Look for the Evidence
What did God do because He loved us?
Why did God send Jesus into the world?
Who did God love?
The lesson reminds us:
God loved.
God gave.
God sent His Son.
God came to save.
That's not just an opinion. That's evidence.
5. WHAT ABOUT ME?
Think honestly about this question:
Where do I usually look for proof that I matter?
☐ Friends
☐ Social media
☐ Grades
☐ Sports
☐ Appearance
☐ Relationships
☐ Achievements
☐ What other people say about me
☐ Other: ______________________
Now ask yourself:
What happens to my confidence when those things don't go the way I want?
Here's the big question:
What would change if Jesus' love became the primary evidence of my worth?
6. MY WORTH IS NOT MY PERFORMANCE
Read these statements:
“I'm only valuable if people like me.”
“I'm only important if I'm successful.”
“I'm only worth something if I get good grades.”
“I'm only valuable if I look a certain way.”
Are these statements true?
Why or why not?
Now replace them with this truth:
My worth isn't based on my performance, popularity, or accomplishments.
My worth is rooted in God's love for me.
The lesson reminds us that when we understand God's grace as the truest evidence of our value, we don't have to keep chasing applause or letting failure define us.
7. PERSONAL REFLECTION
Take a few quiet minutes and answer these questions.
What is one thing I sometimes use to decide whether I'm valuable?
Why do I think I depend on that for my worth?
What does Jesus' sacrifice tell me about how God sees me?
What is one thing I need to stop using as the measure of my worth?
What is one truth from today's study that I want to remember?
8. MY EVIDENCE CARD
Write this somewhere you can see it during the week:
Evidence That I Matter
Ephesians 2:4-5
Jesus gave His life for me because He loves me.
My worth isn't based on:
❌ Popularity
❌ Performance
❌ Grades
❌ Appearance
❌ What other people think
My worth is grounded in:
✅ God's love
✅ God's grace
✅ Jesus' sacrifice
✅ My relationship with Him
Keep this somewhere you'll see it—your phone, backpack, mirror, or Bible.
When you start wondering whether you matter, remember:
You don't have to guess.
You have evidence.
9. THIS WEEK
Choose one thing you will do this week because you know God values you.
☐ Spend time talking with God.
☐ Read Ephesians 2 again.
☐ Read John 3:16-17 each day.
☐ Remind yourself of God's love when you feel rejected.
☐ Encourage someone else who may be struggling with their worth.
☐ Stop comparing yourself to someone else.
☐ Other: ___________________________
My choice:
My prayer:
God, thank You for loving me and making a way for me to have a relationship with You. Help me stop looking to other people, accomplishments, or circumstances to prove my worth. Help me remember that Your love for me is the evidence I need. Help me live each day knowing that I am loved by You and made for a relationship with You.
Amen.
